How Are Diabetes Educators’ Services Reimbursed?

They are not directly reimbursable by Medicare. Most of us are paid by the practice with which we work. But there’s a new ruling by Medicare that only a program that is accredited by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) is reimbursable. That will deny access to diabetes educators for many of our patients. About 1,000 programs are currently accredited by the ADA, but it’s going to take a lot of time until the rest get accredited.
